BREAST REDUCTION

BREAST REDUCTION

Heavy and voluminous breasts can cause many health concerns and affect your self-esteem. At your first appointment, we’ll describe breast reduction procedures that can help you achieve a feminine and comfortable figure. This procedure is usually performed at the hospital.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does this procedure involve?
A boat anchor incision – or only a vertical incision, depending on the case – will be made to remove excess gland tissue, fat and skin. Then, the nipple will be repositioned so that it is centred on your breast. Like you, we want the scars to be as unapparent as possible. That’s why dissolving stitches will be used to close the incisions.
How long does the procedure take?
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes about two to three hours.
Are there any criteria to be met?
Yes. For breast reduction to be covered by the RAMQ, 250 grams of gland tissue must be removed per breast and you must maintain a healthy weight. Moreover, you shouldn’t plan to become pregnant for one year.
Will the scars be apparent?
The healing process takes time, so you’ll see the final result after one year. For two months after the procedure, your scars will be red. Then, as the months go by, they will whiten and become less and less visible over the next 12 months. You can promote healing by applying vitamin E every day starting the fourth week after the procedure.
Is a recovery period required?
You can return to work about one or two weeks after the procedure, but you may have to wait up to four weeks if your job requires you to perform work of a physical nature. Physical activity can be resumed gradually about three weeks later.
