Breast reduction

A heavy and voluminous chest can cause many health and self-esteem concerns. Too large breasts present both aesthetic and functional problems, such as back pain and discomfort in daily activities and sports.

A reduction of the volume with remodeling of the breasts generally corrects the problem. During your first appointment, we will introduce you to breast reduction procedures that will allow you to have a breast that is both feminine and comfortable.

Breast reduction surgery involves the removal of breast tissue, which is different than what occurs in a breast lift. This intervention will reduce the volume of the breasts, but also it can correct the associated fall by raising the breast and correct any asymmetry. The position of the areola and the nipple will be raised during the procedure.

THE INTERVENTION

The breast reduction procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts between 2 and 3 hours.

A boat anchor or vertical only incision, according to the situation, will be made to remove excess glandular tissue, fat and skin. Then, the nipple will be repositioned so that it is centered on your breast.

Like you, we want scars to be the least visible possible. This is why the incisions will be carefully closed using melting points.

The final result is visible after 3 months.

What does this procedure consist of?

A boat anchor or vertical only incision, according to the situation, will be made to remove excess glandular tissue, fat and skin. Then, the nipple will be repositioned so that it is centered on your breast. Like you, we want scars to be as invisible as possible. This is why the incisions will be carefully closed using melting points.

How long does the intervention last?

Performed under general anesthesia, the surgery lasts about two to three hours.

Are there any criteria to be met?

Indeed. To perform a breast reduction covered by the RAMQ, you must remove at least 250 grams of gland per breast, you must respect your healthy weight and not plan to become pregnant for a year.

Will the scars be visible?

The healing process takes some time. Besides, you will only see the final result after a full year. For two months after the procedure, your scars will be red. Then, over the months, they will fade away and become more and more discreet throughout the following 12 months. You can enhance healing by applying vitamin E every day, starting in the fourth week.

Should I plan for a recovery period?

You can return to work about a week or two after the procedure, but you may have to wait up to four weeks if your job requires physical labor. Physical activities can be gradually resumed about three weeks later.
