Nipple & Aerola Reduction surgery corrects long (protruded), wide, or asymmetric nipples.

Overview

Nipple reduction is a minor surgery to reduce size and projection of the nipples. Many women report longstanding concerns about nipple size from breast development, while others have noticed enlargement over time following pregnancies and breastfeeding.

What is a Nipple & Aerola Reduction?

Nipple & Aerola Reduction is a breast enhancement surgery, in which your cosmetic surgeon removes extra skin and tissue to decrease your nipples' height or projection.

The Surgery

A tiny incision will be made just below the nipple. Thanks to the use of melting points, the incision will be almost invisible.

If the retracted nipple is of normal shape, Dr. Coeugniet introduced, under local anesthesia, a ring under the nipple to force it out. If the retracted nipple is due to malformation, he makes an incision at the level of the nipple and cuts the lactiferous ducts, since they are the ones which prevent the normal projection of the nipple.

During nipple reduction, which leaves no visible scars, Dr. Coeugniet sometimes has to cut part of the milk ducts. This is why you should tell the surgeon if you still want to breastfeed after nipple surgery. He will then propose a less radical reduction, which preserves the milk ducts.

For areola reduction, Dr. Coeugniet removes part of the pigmented skin through a small incision made on the outside of the areola. This procedure will leave a thin scar around the areola. It does not affect the possibility of breastfeeding since it preserves the milk ducts.

Tips for Making an Informed Decision

Getting Nipple & Aerola Reduction is a tremendous personal investment. However, it is not a decision that should be made lightly or in a hurry. • Compare notes or seek others’ opinions It is a good idea to speak with your friends, family, or partner about choosing the correct breast implant for your body and lifestyle. Be open to other people’s opinions and suggestions, especially if they have your best interests at heart.
  • Knowledge is power From a plastic surgeon’s point of view, we recommend learning as much about the specific shapes and sizes, surgery incisions, and types of breast implants on the market. Knowing your reasons also play a role in your decision making.
  • Know your budget Consider the cost of your preferred implant. For example, teardrop-shaped implants are more expensive since they require a textured surface to prevent rotation and a trained surgeon to place them.
  • Seek professional advice It is important to understand that no two breast augmentations are alike. Just because saline implants looked beautiful on your best friend does not mean that the same implant will be the right choice for you. This is why plastic surgeons always recommend face-to-face consultations.
