Rhinoplasty procedure improves the nasal appearance by reshaping and augmenting the nose. With rhinoplasty, patients can remove a nasal hump, narrow their nostril width, and improve other areas of their nose for a harmonious facial appearance.
The nose is one of our most prominent facial features. It affects the aesthetics of the entire face, influencing facial balance and attractiveness. A nose that is too large or small, crooked, or otherwise out of proportion with the other features can negatively impact facial aesthetics. Fortunately, a rhinoplasty or “nose job” can help.
Besides improving the aesthetics of the nose itself, a rhinoplasty can be used to:
A person’s nose is often a significant point of concern. As the centermost feature of the face, any minor problem people perceive regarding the look of their nose can negatively affect their feelings about their overall appearance.
A rhinoplasty procedure, sometimes referred to as a nasal reshaping procedure or a “nose job,” may be performed to correct nasal deformities resulting from trauma, or it may be performed to change and enhance the appearance of your nose. Whatever your reasons for undergoing the procedure, because of Dr. Edouard Coeugniet’s extensive experience in nasal surgery and rhinoplasty over the past 15 years, he has confidence in producing, aesthetically pleasing results that address your concerns.
The procedure is extremely versatile, and it can address a wide range of cosmetic and functional problems. Some of the goals rhinoplasty can accomplish include the following:
A rhinoplasty is performed under general and local anesthesia with IV sedation. Local anesthesia contains adrenaline, which constricts the nose’s blood vessels, minimizing bruising and swelling. The incisions that are made will be hidden within the nose to eliminate visible scarring.
During the rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Edouard Coeugniet will make a small incision to access the bone structure of your nose. The surgeon will then make the planned alterations, including bridge reduction and tip support augmentation. Finally, the nostrils may need to be reduced and narrowed, and airway/airflow surgery performed to ensure there will be less risk of airway obstruction after the surgery.
The recovery time for rhinoplasty is up to six weeks. On the day of their surgery, the patient will be able to return home with internal packing to minimize the risk of bleeding, and there will be some bruising and swelling under the eyes.
Surgical tape or a splint will be applied to help your nose maintain its new shape. Rarely, nasal packs or soft plastic splints may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the septum (the dividing wall between the air passages). Most patients are able to resume light activities within a few days of surgery, but you should allow several weeks before resuming full physical activity.
Directly following your surgery, your nose will feel very stuffy, but you will need to remember there is absolutely no nose blowing allowed. Occasionally a patient will have a headache for the first night or two. You will need to keep your head elevated for about 10 days while you sleep. Ice packs or cool compresses will help considerably with your comfort and swelling.
“ Rhinoplasty has always been one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in cosmetic surgery. ”
Rhinoplasty can address structural, cosmetic, or functional issues with the nose while bringing the nose into balance with the rest of the facial features. These procedures can be performed to enhance a nose that appears to droop or that is too large, small, narrow, flat, wide, round, or pointed. Rhinoplasty can also improve the appearance of a hump on the bridge of the nose, a crooked nose, oddly shaped nostrils, or damage due to injury or trauma. From a functional perspective, rhinoplasty can address a deviated septum, improve breathing, reduce snoring, and reduce the risk of obstructive sleep apnea.
No, there is no difference between them. The phrase "nose job" is a colloquial reference to surgical nose reshaping. Rhinoplasty is the technical, medical term for cosmetic or aesthetic nasal surgery.
Rhinoplasty patients can expect to experience mild discomfort with nasal surgery. However, oral medication is usually prescribed to help with any discomfort felt after rhinoplasty. Cold compresses can also help with discomfort.
Typically, 80% of the swelling disappears two weeks after surgery, and another 10% subsides after 2 months. The tip of the nose may retain swelling for longer.
While rhinoplasty scarring can occur, scars from a rhinoplasty are typically minimal and barely visible. Rhinoplasty scarring usually occurs on the columella (the part of the nose that separates the nostrils), which means it is usually not visible.
Any significant scarring will begin to fade about one week after their rhinoplasty. However, it’s important to be patient: while most significant signs of scarring will fade after a week, full recovery can take up to a month.
At the conclusion of the procedure, a long-acting numbing agent is used to ensure the patient leaves the surgery center pain-free. A splint is usually placed on the nose for one week. The nose will be noticeably swollen for several days and should not be blown. Half of all rhinoplasty patients have some bruising. It may take up to a year or even longer before all minor traces of swelling disappear, but the nose will feature an enhanced appearance by the time the splint is removed after surgery.
Getting a procedure is a tremendous personal investment. However, it is not a decision that should be made lightly or in a hurry. Rushing might influence you to choose the wrong shape or go too big, which may impair you from running, jumping, or performing certain physical activities with ease. Go too small, and you may feel underwhelmed with your new look.
