20 Feb What is non-surgical rhinoplasty & How is performed?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also known as a liquid nose job, is a dermal filler procedure that changes the shape of your nose.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty is performed in the office and is similar to other injectable treatments like BOTOX and dermal fillers.
The skin of the nose is cleaned and disinfected. Key areas are then injected to achieve the desired changes by camouflaging hollows and asymmetries. The injection usually takes 5-10 minutes. A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled, and any necessary touch-ups are performed then to further perfect the result if needed.
There is minimal recovery period associated with non-surgical rhinoplasty. Patients can resume normal activities on the same day following the procedure.
How does it work?
When these dissolvable threads are inserted into the middle of the nose bridge through the tip, they straighten the bridge of the nose and create a higher-looking silhouette. The added volume of the threads then helps to increase the height and straightness of the nose. Once inserted, these threads act as a scaffolding structure that immediately helps to contour, define, sharpen, lift and/or shape the nose as desired without surgery.
The result of this procedure typically lasts for about one to two years depending on the material used, individual lifestyle and bodily reactions. There is minimal downtime for this – about one to two days of discomfort around the area and it may also take about three to five days for the thread insertion point to heal. Possible side effects include mild swelling at the insertion site for about one to two hours.
Who is a candidate for non-surgical rhinoplasty?
Any patient who does not wish to have rhinoplasty surgery or is not a good candidate for surgery may be a good candidate for non-surgical rhinoplasty. Patients may not wish to have surgery due to budgetary concerns; or may have had previous surgery with an unsatisfactory result and are hesitant to undergo another procedure. Such patients would be ideally suited for this procedure.
Some patients who are not candidates for surgery due to a medical condition may also benefit from non-surgical rhinoplasty.
Pain and Downtime
In general, the procedure is not painful. The doctor will apply topical numbing cream in order to make the experience tolerable.
For nose fillers, there isn’t any immediate downtime after the procedure and patients can expect to return to action with about an hour’s rest. Some patients report feeling some mild discomfort and sometimes post-operative bruising and swelling is expected. However, within 24 hours, most negative effects will have subsided.
